A factional group plans to hold a meeting today as the rift in Narok County appears to widen despite efforts by President Uhuru Kenyatta to have the warring leaders end their hostilities.
The President, in a move seen as trying to reconcile the warring groups, met with the county leaders and reportedly urged them against holding any political activity pending amicable resolution of issues that have led to factional infighting in the county.
Contentious issues
Mr Kenyatta had said that the political meetings were likely to cause further disharmony, urging the leaders to give Governor Samuel Tunai time to resolve the contentious issues.
But in what appears to be a disregard of the directive by the President, the faction led by area Senator Stephen ole Ntutu has called a meeting to press on their dissatisfaction with the leadership of Mr Tunai.
Narok North MP Moitalel ole Kenta, who is among those in Ntutu's camp and organising today's meeting, however defended the group from accusations of disregarding the advice given by the President, insisting that as leaders they would not be silenced as Tunai's administration runs down the county.
No relent
"We are meeting to tell the people that we have realised that there is nothing that the governor and his team are doing to solve the problems we have. We want to remind our people that we are still pursuing the issues that we raised to Tunai and we will not relent," said Ole Kenta on the agenda of the meeting to be held at Ololua.
Among the issues that the group has faulted Tunai's administration for are discriminating locals in appointments while allegedly favouring other communities in county jobs, alleged failure to complete evictions from Mau Forest and irregularities in collection of revenue from Masai Mara Game Reserve.
However, the governor's camp has accused their opponents of propagating falsehoods, saying they should heed to the calls by the President that they amicably resolve their contentious issues.
