One killed, 18 wounded after vehicle rams into pillar along Thika Road

Nairobi, Kenya: At least one person was Saturday killed and 18 other passengers seriously wounded after a 25-seater Public Service Vehicle (PSV) was involved in an accident in Pangani area, Nairobi.

The vehicle was headed for Babadogo when the driver lost its control and rammed into a pillar at the Pangani-Thika Road interchange.

The accident caused a huge traffic snarl-up that lasted for hours as rescue mission went on.

The injured were taken to the nearby Guru Nanak hospital.

Nairobi head of traffic Edward Mwamburi said they are investigating the incident that happened around 12.30pm. Sections of the road that were cordoned off following the accident were opened two hours later.

This incident brings to four, the number of grisly road accidents reported within 12 hours.

Three people died in a road accident at Gilgil along Naivasha-Nakuru highway earlier on Saturday while five others died on Friday evening in two separate accidents in Eldoret.
