Political parties tribunal temporarily stops TNA from taking PNU offices

Kenya: The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has stopped the The National Alliance (TNA) from occupying offices of Party of National Unity (PNU) along Musa Gitau Road in Westland’s Nairobi.

Tribunal chairman Kyalo Mbuba, issued the orders on Friday after PNU filed an application in court, challenging the unilateral decision by TNA to take over its offices.

Mbuba stopped TNA from making any changes to the offices, pending hearing and determination of the matter. Through lawyer Stephen Mogaka, PNU told the tribunal that TNA has taken over the offices and painted its party colours.

The aggrieved party argues that TNA has acted unlawfully and have abused their powers. Mogaka says since they bought the offices in 2009, they have not transferred ownership to anyone.

They now want the tribunal to issue orders compelling TNA to restore the premises to its original nature by painting the PNU colours and party symbol. They maintained that although they entered into a coalition during the 2013 General Election, that was not consent to allow TNA to take over control of their property.

The matter will resume on January 16, when TNA will make its submissions.
