If given nod, I will only adhere to president’s orders, says Joseph Nkaissery

Nairobi, Kenya: Nominated Interior Security Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has promised Kenyans he will only take orders from the president.

Yesterday, performing what could be his last assignment as the Kajiado Central MP, Nkaissery said he will not follow instructions from politicians.

The MP who awaits the Parliament approval today after being appointed to head the powerful Interior Security docket by President Uhuru Kenyatta, gave out CDF cheques worth Sh31 million to the residents in a colourful ceremony held at his Kajiado office.

Addressing the Press after the function, Nkaissery (pictured) assured all staff at the CDF offices that they will remain in the office until 2017 when their contract ends.

“I am assuring you that nothing will change in our offices, I’m only leaving to go and work for all Kenyans once I’m approved by the parliament,’’ said Nkaissery.

The outgoing legislator also assured all the committees managing the funds at the constituency that they will remain intact.

The lawmaker promised Kenyans that he will serve to the best of his ability once given the opportunity to serve them. “If Parliament approves my candidature and the President assents to my letter of appointment, I will give the best. However, I will not work alone,’’ he added.

The Parliament is expected to debate on his suitability then approve or reject his appointment.

If approved he will then be sworn inn as the Interior Secretary Cabinet tomorrow at the State house.

Notably, Nkaissery’s approval to cabinet will trigger a by-election in his Kajiado Central, the only seat held by ODM in the entire Kajiado County heavily dominated by Jubilee. This promises hard battle between TNA and ODM in the show of supremacy.

The MP appealed to the aspiring candidates willing to contest the seat, to hold their horses as he is still in the office.

“I have no any preferred person, however, any willing candidate should seek the people’s mandate’’ Said Nkaissery.

Three  aspiring candidates from President Uhuru’s  National Alliance Party (TNA) has shown interest in the seat.

They are Mr Simon Peter ole Nkeri, Memusi Kanchori and  Patrick Tutui.
