Speaker gets motion to impeach Governor William Kabogo

An impeachment motion seeking to oust Governor William Kabogo has been forwarded to the Assembly Speaker Gathii Irungu for his approval.

Once the Speaker approves it, the motion sponsored by Limuru Central MCA Njenga Murugani will be tabled in the House for debate.

Mr Kabogo faces 12 accusations that put his conduct in office to question. Among them is moving the county headquarters to Thika town from Kiambu town and failing to appear before the Senate to answer to audit queries raised by the Auditor General.

According to Ngewa MCA Karungo wa Thang’wa, once the motion is brought to the House, the MCAs supporting it will start enlightening the county public on reasons why they want the governor impeached.

Cheap politics

“After the Speaker approves the motion, we will move from one sub-county to another to explain to the people why Kabogo should be out of office,” said Mr Thang’wa.

It now remains to be seen if the motion will be tabled in the House before Thursday afternoon when the assembly will break for the December holiday and will come back February next year.

Defending himself against the impending impeachment, Kabogo in a recent radio talk show said the planned motion will not pass saying “all planned against me and my administration shall not prosper.”

He added: “My focus now is development of the county and not cheap politics. I will be there for a few years.”

The move to impeach Kabogo has also divided the county MPs with some supporting and others calling for a truce.

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria wants MPs and MCAs opposed to end their wrangles and differences with the governor for the sake of the county development.

Mr Kuria said the wrangles among leaders in the area are giving the home county of President Uhuru Kenyatta a bad name in the eyes of the public.

He told the leaders to give Kabogo a chance to serve the people of Kiambu and wait for the 2017 elections.

Thika MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kimani Ichungw’a (Kikuyu), Kigo Njenga (Gatundu North), Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town) and Lari’s Mburu Kahangara have often differed with the governor over his leadership style.

Since in office, Kabogo has been at loggerheads with majority MPs and MCAs who have accused him of sidelining them in key county matters.
