Assembly votes to recover millions lost by council

The Assembly has adopted proposals to recover millions of shillings lost in illegal or irregular expenditure by the defunct Kwale Town Council.

The proposals are contained in a report by the Auditor General for the year that ended June 30, 2012.

The document was tabled by the Public Investments and Accounts Committee and adopted by the Assembly.

The committee recommended that the county government recovers Sh4.1 million collected through corrupt ways by former staff and councillors. This should be done within two months, says the report.

Cash that cannot be accounted for includes Sh6 million for approved projects. Only Sh3.5 million was paid.
