Kirinyaga County government introduces medical insurance for orphans

Kirinyaga County government has introduced a medical insurance cover for orphans and vulnerable children in Kirinyaga West Sub County. The cover will cater for children under the cash transfer and those already categorised as orphans and vulnerable children.

Speaking at Baricho yesterday, the sub-county children officer Mwiti Kiruki, said the insurance cover is on a pilot basis and will be replicated to other sub counties.

''So far, 259 beneficiaries from a section of Mwerua Ward have already been covered and more will be brought on board if the project succeeds,'' he said.

He said the social protection programme aims to enhance the capacity of the poor and vulnerable to improve their livelihoods.
