Umoinner Sacco tout and trader killed in Umoja estate

City News

Umoja estate

Two young men were recently shot dead in separate incidents barely an hour apart in Umoja estate.

A conductor with Umoinner Sacco, Steven Omondi aka Chief who is in his late 20s, and a trader, Ken Ouko who is in his 30s, were allegedly killed in the morning of November 21. Residents fear the perpetrators of the crime were not common criminals.

Police spokesperson Zipporah Mboroki however said, “We need to investigate further and find out who they were and what transpired before the killings.”

Witnesses said Omondi was having drinks at Soulfa pub at Side B in Umoja with friends and accompanied by a woman.

Three men allegedly entered the same pub and spanked the woman on her backside. Omondi had allegedly gone for a short call when all this was happening.

“He confronted the men and this led to a fight. Security men at the pub reportedly managed to cool things down.

It is alleged Omondi later confronted the three men outside the pub at around 5am with a machete.  One of the three men reportedly whipped out a gun and shot him three times, killing him instantly.

“We learnt that Omondi’s colleagues surrendered when they noticed the gun. It seems however that their target was Omondi,” an official with Umoinner told The Nairobian.

It is claimed that the men, who escaped through the backstreet after committing the crime, also shot dead Ken Ouko near Egesa pub.

While Mboroki said they could not yet establish identity of the killers, residents claimed that Ouko was in the company of a woman before he was confronted by the same criminals who harassed his female companion before shooting him dead.
