Debate rages over charges for those who stripped Nairobi Woman

Local News

Makadara Law Courts

Debates began online as to whether women fraternity was keen on securing conviction for three people including an administration policeman charged with stripping a woman.

Online community began looking at the strengths and weaknesses of the case as filed before court with some pointing out there were glaring errors in the charge sheet.

Police officer Christopher Gathara and a tout Samuel Maina Ngige were charged before the Chief Magistrate Emily Ominde for attempting to strip a 16-year-old girl at Kayole for wearing a mini skirt.

The men were therfore charged with indecent act Section 11A of the sexual Offenses Act which states “Any person who commits an indecent act with an adult is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 5 years or a fine not exceeding Sh50, 000 or to both.

This particular scenario is what has caused a debate over the charges; Does this section match the facts to ensure a conviction? Are the police ‘incompetent’ as stated by angered Kenyans?
