3 people among them an AP officer arrested and charged for attempting to strip a woman

Nairobi, Kenya: An Administration policeman is among three men who were arrested for allegedly attempting to strip a woman on Sunday in Komarock Estate, Nairobi.

Police say the woman was on her way from the Calvary Church in Komarock phase two and was accompanied by a female lady when they were confronted by four men.

The men accused them of being indecently dressed prompting a confrontation.

According to police, the men attempted to strip one of the women but they were rescued by members of the public.

A scuffle ensued that left two men slightly wounded and a windscreen of a bus broken.

It was then that police were mobilized and rushed to the scene. Police said it was at the scene that they discovered among those detained was an officer attached to APTC. The three were in court Monday and faced charges of stripping.

The incident comes in the wake of similar ones in which women were stripped naked for allegedly being indecently dressed. The first incident happened in the central business district while the rest were reported in Kayole.

This prompted protests on the streets and social media condemning the incidents.

The mobilisation for the protest started last week on social media under the hashtag #MyDressMyChoice. It was followed with street marches as police carried out swoops arresting close to 100 men.

Police said they had received “many” and increased complaints of harassment from women since the first incident happened.

The protesters shouted shame on you and handed out flowers at a bus stop where the attack took place.

The group organised the protest after a video of the attack went viral on social media last week.

Deputy President William Ruto waged into the debate, saying Kenya was not a "primitive" society and the men who stripped the woman should be arrested.

Both men and women, some dressed in miniskirts, marched to the bus stop and the offices of police boss David Kimaiyo, demanding an end to violence against women and arrest of those behind it.

Kimaiyo has appealed to the unnamed woman to lodge an official complaint with police so that the incident can be investigated.

This was after the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko directed Kimaiyo to arrest and prosecute those who were behind the attack.
