Arsene Wenger admits he feels sorry for Arsenal fans

Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has apologised to Arsenal fans after Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Saturday.

Gunners left-back Kieran Gibbs gave United a helping hand when he deflected the ball past his own goalkeeper in north London.

Rooney doubled the home side’s lead in the 85th minute before Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation strike.

"There was lots of energy," Wenger  told the club's official website.

"We produced a game of quality and energy and in the end we didn't get the reward. Manchester United had two shots on target and we lost the game - that's what it was.

"All the rest was one of the most one-way traffic games I've seen against United. I feel so sorry for our fans and the energy level the players put in not to get a win because it's so disappointing."

Arsenal sit eighth in the Premier League table, 15 points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
