Two 78-year olds deny defiling girl, 10

Nakuru, Kenya: Two elderly men accused of defiling a 10-year-old girl on Friday pleaded not guilty to the offence in a Nakuru court.

The two, Mureithi Ngari and Tom Mungai, both aged 78, denied defiling the minor in Kiambogo Division, Gilgil Disrtrict Nakuru County on separate occasions between September 14 and 16. They were arraigned before Resident Magistrate Mary Otundo.

Mureithi, who is the first accused, was charged with enticing the girl with mandazi before inviting her to his house where he allegedly defiled her repeatedly on September 14.

However, in his defence, Mureithi denounced the charges, maintaining he did not defile the minor and that he did not know her.

“How do you accuse me of such an act yet I don’t even know this child?” Mureithi stated. The court also heard that Mungai used the same bait to lure the minor to his house within the same location on November 16, just two days after the first accused allegedly subjected the girl to the same ordeal.

Like the first suspect, Mungai pleaded not guilty to the charges, adding: “I am too old and my advanced age cannot allow me to engage in this act you are accusing me of. Please, I did not do it,” he testified. The case was adjourned to December 1 and the accused remanded at Nakuru Police Station awaiting mention of the case after failing to raise a Sh400,000 bond.
