Chief charged for soliciting bribe

A chief and his assistant have been charged at Milimani Law courts with soliciting bribes from a city trader so as not to approve demolition of his premises in Nairobi’s Highridge.

Highridge chief Kamau Mwangi and his assistant Justus Malundu Atieri appeared before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo of the Anti-Corruption Court facing several counts of soliciting money for a benefit.

They however denied the charges and were directed to deposit Sh50,000 each awaiting their trial on January 22, 2015. The court heard that the two committed the offence on May 8, this year at Highridge chief’s office within Nairobi County.

Meanwhile, in another court, a man who allegedly forged a land title deed has been charged with forgery. John Kang’ethe was accused that he jointly with others who were not in court, forged a title deed purporting it to be a genuine document issued by the Commissioner of Lands.

The court heard that on August 13 at AGIP House along Haile Sellasie Avenue, Nairobi, he  forged the said tittle deed for one Mike Wagunda purporting it to have been issued by the Commissioner of Lands.

The accused was further charged with forging a national identity card on August 13.

He was released on Sh1 million bond and one surety of similar amount. The case will be mentioned on December 2.
