Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao defends association with Jubilee government

Mbooni MP Kisoi Munyao has scoffed at plans by his Wiper party to "discipline" him for supporting the Jubilee government.

"I want to state categorically that I have no apologies to make to anyone for working with the Government to spur development in my constituency," declared the youthful MP.

Mr Munyao said the national government still retains 85 per cent of revenue and he had a responsibility to ensure residents get their fair share of the 'cake.'

He said working with the Government for the sake of development should not be misconstrued to mean he had decamped from the Wiper party.

"When there was insecurity in some parts of my constituency, I sought the intervention of the national government and the matter was sorted out. Security has been beefed up and my people are secure," explained the MP.

warning letters

He dismissed threats by the party to de-whip him and his colleagues believed to be working with the Government, saying it is their cardinal duty as elected leaders was to realise development for their people.

"If our greatest sin under the Political Parties Act was to join President Uhuru Kenyatta during his recent tour of Machakos County last week, then let the party make good its threat to expel us," he said.

The MP made the remarks as unconfirmed reports indicated that Wiper had sent warning letters to at least some 25 leaders perceived to rebels. He said he had not seen the said letters.

He said he was being targeted for discipline for joining President Uhuru during his last week's tour of Machakos where ten Kamba MPs pledged to support the President's development agenda.

The MP warned against using the Political Parties Act to drag the country back to the dark days when party members were not allowed to have divergent political opinions.

"We are in a new dispensation where we should embrace political tolerance," he said.

The Mbooni MP also questioned the 'political sin' Kalonzo committed when he joined President Uhuru Kenyatta in Machakos during the launch of the proposed Machakos city.
