University student shot and wounded by gangsters next to Thika Road Mall in Nairobi

A university student was shot and seriously wounded in a robbery next to Thika Road Mall in Nairobi.

The student is said to be from Jaramogi Oginga University, Nairobi Campus.

Police said the student was shot in the back during a confrontation with gunmen as he and his colleagues left the mall on Monday night.

He was rushed to hospital after the incident and is said to be in stable condition.

Home-made gun

The gangsters, who police suspect were armed with a home-made gun, fled after the shooting.

Elsewhere, a suspect was shot and wounded in a botched robbery at a police station in the city.

The suspect was allegedly vandalising vehicles parked at the Nairobi Area Police Station when he was shot and wounded at about 3am on Monday.

Police said the suspect had already broken into several vehicles by the time police pounced on him.
