Controversy over CJ Willy Mutunga’s official residence as Gladys Shollei releases documents

Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga

NAIROBI, KENYA: Chief Justice Dr Willy Mutunga kicked off a fresh storm when he denied claims that the judiciary bought him an official residence.

He stated that he earns a house allowance of Sh100,000 monthly which is also taxed.

The Chief Justice on his official twitter handle posted that since his appointment as the chief justice he has lived in a rented apartment.

But in a new twist former Judiciary Registrar Mrs Gladys Shollei dismissed Mutunga’s claims and posted documents showing how the judiciary purchased a house for the Chief Justice.

As the social media war raged official documents on the purchase of the stated house was circulated on the social media platforms.

The issue of the CJs official residence came hot in the heels of Deputy President William Ruto’s official residence which was on news headlines because he had not occupied it despite the fact that it was complete.

A section of MPs lead by TNA chair Johnston Sakaja complained that the house was exposed to security risks.
