Deputy President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that Jubilee leaders are ready to submit to the requirements of transparency and accountability in their actions.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebrations at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi yesterday, Mr Ruto said all leaders and public servants must uphold the highest standards of integrity.

"As we prepare the leadership of tomorrow, those of us in leadership today must act transparently and in an accountable manner because that is the demand of the Constitution. There are no options to that or exceptions," he said.

His sentiments came as some opposition leaders alleged some top officials were involved in the controversial Sh8 billion Karen land dispute.

Ruto said the Government is ready to scale up support to the key accountability bodies like the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Auditor-General among others in the fight against corruption and impunity.

Ruto urged leaders to unite Kenyans and focus their energies on socio-economic development.

Create jobs

"It's good to be proud to belong to a certain community. It's better to be proud to belong to a certain county, but it is best to be proud to belong to a country. If we work together, we achieve much more than if we work in isolation," he said.

The DP said the government is establishing a foundation that will generate opportunities and jobs for many unemployed youth.

He said the construction of the standard gauge railway and building of 2,000 kilometres of tarmac roads in the next one year will create jobs for the youth.

He also cited the commissioning of new power projects to bring down the cost of electricity and drive economic development.

"We see our young people as the solution to many problems facing the country and not a burden. They need a supporting environment to enable them to create opportunities," he said.
