Woman Rep says her election was not a 'round table' deal

Woman Representative Dennitah Ghati has told off political rivals who recently said she got the position following a "round table" deal.

Speaking at a funds drive in Migori town over the weekend, Ms Ghati said she sold her manifesto to the people, who found it credible enough to give her the opportunity to serve.

"I visited homes, churches and markets to share my dreams for the women and the county as a whole; it was not a negotiation. If it were a negotiation then it was between me and the voters not any other person," she said.

"My condition does not make me weak. I am strong and in this wheelchair only temporarily. My services to Migori residents will be delivered to the maximum. I appeal to all the women in Migori to work hard and always remember Ghati is there to respond to your call."

Her sentiments were echoed by former Migori mayor Peter Masara who praised her industry as the woman representative.

"Ghati has gotten over the accident she was involved in and she is now busy working for the electorate. We expect to see people in her condition retreat to the house, but she is different," he said.

NO SIDESHOWS

Kajiado Woman Representative Mary Seneta called on Migori women to ignore sideshows and work towards uplifting their economic status.

"The days are gone when women were left in the house. Today it is women who uplift homes, educate children and lead the society. My sister was involved in an accident that almost took her life but now that she is here to serve us, let us work hard wo we do not to disappoint her," she said.
