Trans Nzoia receives drugs worth Sh29 million from Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies

Kenya: Trans Nzoia County has received drugs and medical supplies worth over Sh29 million from Mission for Essential Drugs and Supplies (MEDS). Speaking while flagging off of the consignment from the County’s headquarters, Deputy Governor Stanley Tarus said the supplies would address shortages reported in hospitals and are part of the county’s plan to increase access to affordable healthcare.

The drugs, tested for quality at the MEDS’ World Health Organisation (WHO) pre-qualified Quality Control Laboratory, will be distributed to Kitale Level 5 hospital, sub-county hospitals and health centres in the region. Mr Tarus warned officials against diverting the drugs, saying government would take decisive measures against anyone found engaging in corrupt deals.

“We will carefully monitor the distribution of these drugs and medical supplies to ensure they reach the desired beneficiaries,” he said. More than 32 counties have purchased drugs and medical supplies worth over Sh1 billion from the regional faith-based organisation this year.
