Over 120 MPs to accompany President Uhuru Kenyatta to The Hague

Nairobi, Kenya: All indicators are clear that President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to travel to The Hague next week as over 120 MPs make preparations to accompany him.

Majority Whip of the National Assembly Katoo ole Metito Thursday wrote a text message to his fellow legislators asking them to confirm their willingness to accompany Uhuru to The Hague next week.

“An arrangement has been made for all Members of Parliament who wish to accompany HE the President to the Hague next week, to go to the Netherlands Embassy tomorrow, Friday October 3 between 8.30am and 10am,” said Metito.

Metito however said the MPs will cater for their own travel expenses.

“Take note also that this is voluntary and each Member travelling will cater for their own expenses.  Confirm if you wish to travel so that we forward your name now to the Embassy,” added Metito.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) summoned the Head of State to attend a status conference set for October 8. Uhuru made a request to the court to be allowed to attend the meet via video link but the court insisted he has to attend in person.

Thursday, Jubilee allied MP Muriuki Njagagua confirmed having been issued with a travel Visa to accompany the Head of the State to The Hague.

Njagagua who is a members of the Parliamentary committee on budget told residents of Kirinyaga County that he could not be able join his other colleagues for a function in the area as he had spent most of the day at the Netherlands Embassy in Nairobi seeking for the travel document.

Speaking in Kutus town where he joined three of his colleagues where they were seeking views on the priorities for the 2015/2016 budget Thursday, said he was now ready to make the trip to The Hague.

He said the groups to travel to the Netherlands comprise of seasoned lawyers and other professionals to ensure all would be well in the event of an eventuality.

“I wish to sincerely apologise for coming this late to your forum but I was held up at the Netherlands Embassy seeking for Visa,” he said.
