School seeks divine intervention over fire incidents

Homabay, Kisumu: The recent fire incidents in Homa Bay High school have called for special prayers in the school.

In an interdenominational sermon, clergymen told the school management to embrace prayers in all activities conducted in the school.

South Nyanza ACK Diocese's Rev John Odanga said prayer was the only way through which the school will escape the fire incidents which have rocked it in the last two months.

"The manner in which dormitories have been burnt down in this school is astonishing. I want to appeal to the school management to embrace prayers so that such a challenge can be overcome," Rev Odanga said.

He challenged both the school community and County leadership to have dialogue with the students to enhance solution of problem solving in the school.

Seventh Day Adventist's Tom Mwombo urged parents, teachers and students to enhance good relationship to enhance success in academics in the institution.

He urged parents and teachers to avoid any rumours which disintegrate the school during this time when investigations about causes of fire are ongoing.

The school Principal Andrew Buop said they have managed to renovate one dormitory and asked well-wishers to chip in and help construct dormitories for the students.

Homa Bay High School has experienced cases of fire in which two dormitories were burnt down in September this year, just a month after another one was gutted down in July due to fire incidents whose causes have not been established.

In the three incidents, property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after more than 240 students who were staying in the dormitories failed to save their belongings from fire.
