Narok woman in love triangle murder jailed

A Narok businesswoman was Wednesday sentenced to life imprisonment after she was found guilty of murdering her husband’s lover.

Nakuru High Court judge Lady Justice Roseline Wendoh handed the sentence to Nancy Soila for stabbing Mary Wanjiku three years ago at Enoosupukia, Narok County.

Justice Wendoh said the court was satisfied by evidence adduced by five witnesses who testified in court.

HEINOUS ACT

“The evidence given in this court leaves no doubt that you committed the heinous act and will therefore accordingly convict you to serve as an example to would be offenders,” said the judge while delivering the judgement.

Before the sentence was passed, Soila’s lawyer Olali Cheche questioned why the investigating and arresting officers were not called to testify in the case.

“There is no evidence to warrant conviction only a lot of benefit of doubt which should go toward acquittal of the accused,” Cheche said.

The prosecution however maintained that Soila murdered Wanjiku and was arrested the same night and taken to police custody.

They said a postmortem report produced in court showed that the deceased sustained several injuries to her body after being stabbed with a sharp object and succumbed to excessive bleeding.

In mitigation, Solai told the court she is a young woman with a young family and pleaded for leniency of judgement.

However, the judge said considering the magnitude of the offence committed, she deserves life imprisonment.

She was given 14 days to appeal.
