United Democratic Front members to boycott monthly fee

United Democratic Front (UDF) party elected members will not pay their monthly contributions if the ousted party chairman, Hassan Osman, remains in office.

Vihiga County Assembly Leader of Majority Andrew Ahuga, who is also a member of the National Executive Council (NEC) said they would mobilise members of the party not to submit their monthly subscriptions.

The MCA also threatened to walk out of UDF and seek another party if the UDF leadership refuses to salvage its reputation.

Vihiga County has two MPs, a senator, 15 elected and ten nominated MCAs on UDF party ticket.

"We give our monthly subscription to sustain the party as life members, but the money ends up in the pockets of those who want to sell the party to the willing and highest bidder. We wonder why Osman is still in office," said Mr Ahuga.

The MCA also claimed United Republican Party (URP) was behind the woes in UDF so that it can win Western region's support for the presidency in 2017.

INEPTITUDE CLAIMS

"There has been allegations of mismanagement and fraudulent use of funds from the party's coffers, which we are not going to accept any more," he said.

Last month, UDF party held a NEC meeting despite a Political Parties Tribunal order barring officials and employees from running the affairs of the party until a case before it is heard and determined.

The meeting was attended by among others, party leader Musalia Mudavadi and his deputy Jeremiah Kioni, who the tribunal has barred from running the party until the case is determined.

Vihiga MCAs now claim party leaders are victims of ineptitude for failure to sign minutes of a National Executive Council meeting that endorsed the interim branch officials.

"The process to rescue and revive the party at branch level was unanimously agreed on by leaders from all wards. Endorsement by the NEC was overwhelming and we trust that the NEC has the power and authority within the party constitution to make crucial decisions for the party's well-being," said Ahuga.

They said a national party cannot be held to ransom by one interim individual, yet the bonafide leaders who were constitutionally endorsed by the National Delegates Council are on the sidelines.

Mr Mudavadi announced on September 17 that the changes in the National Executive Committee were in preparation for 2017 elections, which has since met rebellion from Mr Osman and his team.
