Pistol magazine with 15 bullets found in a Nairobi city mall

Police are investigating the discovery of a pistol magazine in the compound of a shopping mall in Nairobi.

The magazine had 15 live bullets of 9mm calibre largely used with the Ceska Pistol. It was in a leather bag concealed in a black polythene bag.

The magazine was found in the compound of a supermarket along Langata Road in Nairobi, causing a brief moment of panic. Police were called to the scene and they removed the magazine.

BALLISTIC EXPERTS

Officials handling the Monday evening incident said they had sent the bullets to ballistic experts for testing to establish the owner and origin.

The discovery comes at a time when the country's security systems are at an all-time high alert owing to terrorist threats.

Police have scaled up surveillance in all vital installations and major shopping malls across the country to forestall any possible attacks.

BOTCHED ROBBERY

Elsewhere, three suspected thugs were Monday night lynched during a botched robbery in Mukuru kwa Reuben slums in Nairobi. A fourth suspect escaped on foot.

Police say the men were accused of robbing pedestrians in the area before the alarm was raised.

According to Makadara OCPD Nehemia Lagat, this attracted a mob that stoned them before setting them on fire.

"Police were called to the scene long after the incident had happened," said Lagat.

Police are also investigating an incident in which a seven-month-old baby died after drinking milk bought from a local kiosk in Huruma. The milk has been taken for testing.
