Ngando Primary School in Nyeri reopened

Ngando, Kenya: Learning has resumed at Ngando Primary School after an interdenominational cleansing ceremony was carried out on Monday.

The school was closed a week ago after a man, said to be mentally sick, was shot dead in front of the children as he attempted to attack Ndia MP Stephen Ngari with a machete when the legislator visited the school.

On Monday, Kenya Assemblies of God, Pastor Simon Mwangi led the interdenominational cleansing ceremony at the scene of the bloody incident.

The priests also conducted special prayers for the school headmaster Samuel Mwangi who sustained serious head injuries after he attempted to block the attacker from striking the MP with the sharp machete.

The teacher was rushed to Nairobi's MP Shah Hospital in a coma, but his condition is said to have improved .

FAMILY APOLOGY

During the attack Ngari's body guard also sustained serious cuts on his left hand, as he blocked the panga from landing on the MP's head, yet managed to shoot the assailant, Robert Muchoki, dead.

Muchoki's family later confirmed that their kin had a history of mental sickness dating back to 1996 and even availed medical records to prove their claims.

The family, which was also present at the ceremony, asked the community for forgiveness.

"Our brother had not taken his medication and we did not know about it until the worst happened. We sincerely apologise to all the children and their parents for having made them go through such a horrific incident," said Muchoki's elder brother, David Kiberege.
