Luo elders tell politicians to let Migori governor Okoth Obado work

A faction of Luo Council of Elders now want local politicians to give Migori Governor Okoth Obado space to deliver on his pledges.

The faction led by Ker Riaga Ogalo told some area politicians off for allegedly being a stumbling block by trying to scuttle Mr Obado’s growth agenda.

This comes in the wake of the heat generated by Obado’s recent visit to State House to apologise for rowdy youths who interrupted President Uhuru Kenyatta’s event in the county two weeks ago.

Mr Ogalo faulted local leaders condemning the State House trip, saying it was in the interests of the community.

“We cannot live in a perpetual state of political bickering. Our leaders must agree to tolerate one another for growth in this region,” said Ogalo.

He added: “Politicians should not incite the people of Migori against a governor they overwhelmingly voted for in the 2013 General Election. They should give him ample time to discharge his duties without meddling.”

DIVERGENT OPINIONS

Kasipul politician Odoyo Owidi said local leaders should have dialogue to address what he termed political domination in the region.

“When will we stop this witch-hunting and political labelling, and embrace divergent opinions as a people?” Mr Owidi posed.

“Because Coalition for Reforms and Democracy supports devolution, local politicians must also respect the governors to bring the fruits of devolution to residents,” he said.

Some members of the county assembly have also warned some leaders off Migori politics. The leaders accused Siaya Senator James Orengo and Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo of plotting to destablise Obado’s government.

The leaders spoke after reports in a section of the Press indicated that Orengo and Midiwo would be in Migori this week for a campaign rally against the governor for demonstrating bad leadership.

BEING PETTY

The two have reportedly taken issue with Obado for allegedly using tax payers’ money to fund the trip to State House.

“This is being petty and we shall not allow any politician from whichever part of the country to disrespect the people of Migori. Why don’t they help solve problems in their own county?” posed North Kadem Ward Representative Boaz Okoth.

“We have our agenda and plans aimed at developing this county and this is the most important thing we can do for citizens to benefit from the fruits of devolution,” he added.

North Kanyamkago Ward Rep George Omamba asked political leaders to practise politics of development.

“Migori is a cosmopolitan county and we need the different communities to feel united for us to achieve development and peaceful co-existence,” he said.
