Brothers shot dead, sister seriously injured as bandits raid Baringo

BARINGO COUNTY: Tension is mounting in Silale area in East Pokot, Baringo County after suspected raiders from neighbouring Turkana County shot and killed two brothers and injured their sister before making away with 342 goats.

According to witnesses, the armed raiders believed to be from Lomelo and Baragoi areas invaded the village which is near the border of the two counties indiscriminately spraying bullets at the victim's homestead killing the two.

The two who were injured were identified as Kasait Cholia, 24 and his brother Lochom, 22, while their sister Kesinet, 18, survived the ordeal with eight bullets lodged in her body and currently receiving treatment at Kabarnet District Hospital.

The incident has caused fears among the residents causing them to flee to other areas fearing for their lives and limiting most of them from accessing healthcare from Kapedo Dispensary which is the closest.

Area Deputy Commissioner Daniel Kurui who confirmed the incident said the security team in East Pokot was liaising with their counterparts in Turkana Central in pursuing the attackers.

"It was a night incident where the raiders attacked a family, killing two brothers and injuring a sister. It's an unfortunate incident that we are working on with the other side to bring the culprits to book, as well as to recover the stolen livestock," said Kurui.

Local leaders led by area MCA Nelson Lotela have decried deterioration of security along the Turkana-Baringo border saying that over 10 people have been killed in the area in the last two months.

"We lost seven people in the month of August, this month, we have lost four. How many people must die for the government to realize that the situation in this area is serious? We need action." lamented Lotela.
