Thugs terrorise residents, steal money and cigarettes in morning raid

EMBU COUNTY: A 10-member gang armed with a firearm raided two homes in Embu East sub-county on Monday morning and terrorized residents before robbing them.

The gang first struck at the home of John Kariuki, in Rukuriri sub-location at 2am where they broke into his shop and stole unknown amount of money and cigarettes.

Area Administration Police Commandant Charles Machinji said the thugs broke the window of the shop and accosted the owner and robbed him.

"They then made off with his Toyota Succeed vehicle which they used to steal in the next home," said Machinji.

He said the assailants then broke into Dennis Karanja's home in Mufu sub-location where they injured him on the leg using a blunt object.

Machinji said the thugs stole Sh1,700 from Karanja and when they started beating him his wife gave them another Sh20,000.

"We were notified of the robbery and rushed to the scene. The thugs took off on spotting us and left the vehicle they had stolen behind. We are dusting it to get their fingerprints," he said.

Machinji said they have commenced investigations to nab the robbers and called on people with information to volunteer it to police.
