Counties spent more on trips than allocated

It has emerged that some counties spent more than was allocated for domestic and foreign travel.

A Controller of Budget (CoB) report for the financial year 2013/2014 shows that Migori, Murang'a, Kwale, Vihiga and Kirinyaga counties spent more on domestic and foreign travel than their budgetary allocations.

The over spending prompted the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA) and CoB to propose ceilings on expenditure.

Although the counties did not surpass their overall allocation for travel, the Annual Budget Implementation Review report showed that many of them spent more on trips than their allocation.

Counties were allocated Sh9.8 billion for domestic and foreign travel and they spent Sh7.7 billion, which is 76 per cent of the allocation.
