Mystery of three bodies found in thicket in Mandera County

Mandera, Kenya: Mystery surrounds the discovery of three bodies in a thicket in Ashabitu area, Mandera County in the ongoing inter-clan fighting.

The bodies had gunshot wounds when they were discovered by pedestrians who later called police. Police say they are yet to know those behind the killings.

Police say they are investigating the incident with a motive of taking action. Tension remained high in the area amid heavy security in the wake of ongoing inter-clan clashes.

The incident came despite an earlier agreement to keep peace in the area among the warring clans.

Inspector General of police David Kimaiyo said a number of leaders from Mandera County have recorded statements with police in connection with the ongoing inter-clan fighting in the area that has left more than a dozen people dead and others displaced.

"I urge all leaders and members of the community in this region to desist from protecting criminal and law breakers in the name of community," said Kimaiyo.

He said three AK 47 rifles and more than 500 bullets have so far been recovered in an operation that is ongoing in the area.
