Nairobi, Kenya: A Nigerian national was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with pellets of narcotics believed to be heroin in his anal system.

The man had inserted several pellets to his anal system when he was intercepted while on transit from Pakistan to Guineu Bissau.

Police say he had emitted 20 pellets of the drugs believed to be heroin by Sunday morning. The man was intercepted and put on observation room when he emitted the pellets. The value of the narcotics is yet to be known.

He will appear in court on Monday when he is expected to have finished emitting all the pellets, said police boss David Kimaiyo.

The incident is the latest in a series of recoveries at the airport. In July, another Nigerian was arrested after he had been carrying several pellets of heroin valued at more than Sh2 million.

The man had arrived at JKIA aboard KQ from Dubai while on transit to Abidjan when he was intercepted by police.

The arrest came days after another Nigerian was arrested while carrying 53 pellets valued at more than Sh4 million.

The 37-year-old man had arrived at JKIA in Nairobi from Lagos while on transit to Bangkok when he was arrested.

Police say they are experiencing an increase of the number of suspects using JKIA as a transit point for the drugs.

Police at JKIA have in the past months made arrests and seizures of drugs that are on transit.

Most of the narcotics that are seized are cocaine and heroin.

Statistics show police at the airport seized drugs valued more than Sh50 million last year alone. Most of those arrested were passengers who were on transit.

The trend shows most of the passengers on transit from Southern American countries carry cocaine. Those from Asian countries carry heroin.
