MP on spot over Sh100m project

Keiyo North MP James Murgor, is accused of relocating the proposed Kapkei Technical Training Institute (TTI) to his Kapkoi rural home in Elgeyo-Marakwet County, about 50 kilometres away.

Led by area MCA Christopher Cheboiboch, Emsoo Ward residents are now demanding that the Sh100 million institution be erected in its earlier site, as they have already donated a seven-acre piece of land for the project. They say the piece of land has adequate water and power supplies.

"We enthusiastically voted for him during the last General Election hoping he would turn our fortunes around, but he has now turned against us," said Mama Elizabeth Yator, a resident.

During a recent fund-raiser in Kibendo Secondary School, the two leaders who were among the guests, clashed publicly as the MCA accused the MP of using his position to relocate the training institution.

"We demand that the MP clears the air on this matter and tell us why the TTI  moved to his rural home," said Cheboiboch.

But when the MP took to the podium, he downplayed the question promising the residents to go back to the area and talk about the issue. "We will come and sit down over the matter," he said.

TTI Board of Management chairman Johana Kwambai, said the construction of the institution in the area could have spurred development as well as improve the rampant poor living conditions of the residents.

"We want the government to revoke the transfer since Emsoo Ward is connecting Marakwet and Baringo regions, and would benefited  jobless youth," said Sammy Kwambai, a local youth leader.
