President Uhuru summoned to attend ICC status conference

Kenya: The International Criminal Court (ICC) has vacated President Uhuru Kenyatta’s trial date and convened a status conference for October 7th-8th.

Uhuru is required to attend day two of the conference. A Representative of the Kenyan Government will attend the first status conference.

Both hearings will be held in the presence of the Prosecution, the Defence and the Legal Representatives of Victims.

In a statement posted on ICC website Friday, the court said pending issues will be discussed during the two-day conference.

“Today, 19 September 2014, Trial Chamber V(b) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) vacated the trial commencement date in the case The Prosecutor v. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, which had been provisionally scheduled for 7 October 2014. The Chamber also convened two public status conferences for 7 and 8 October 2014 at 10:00 (The Hague local time), to discuss the status of cooperation between the Prosecution and the Kenyan Government and issues raised in the Prosecution’s Notice of 5 September 2014, respectively”, part of the statement read.

In September, the Prosecution requested the Trial Chamber to further adjourn the Uhuru’s trial until the Government of Kenya provides them with all the records they had requested.
