IG David Kimaiyo orders police units to work together

NAIROBI, KENYA: Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo has ordered Administration and regular police officers to work together.

Mr Kimaiyo instructed the police commanders across the service to ensure that the officers worked as a team despite being in different units.

"I also want to urge all officers and especially all commanders across the service to work in harmony and also cultivate strong comradeship," he said.

Kimaiyo's orders come days after a group of Administration Police officers stormed Kisumu Central Police Station to protest the killing of their colleague who was linked to a robbery incident.

The police chief, however, admitted to incidents implicating officers in impropriety.

"These incidents have been dealt with according to service regulations as well as existing laws. There are also instances where a few officers have been found involved in criminal acts," he said.

He warned officers against engaging in unlawful acts, saying those caught would be subjected to the rule of law.

"Individual and isolated cases should never be used to demonise the whole service," he said.
