M-Pesa 'agent' found selling bhang Rurii trading centre

Police in Nyandarua Central yesterday raided an M-Pesa agency in Rurii trading centre where they recovered several rolls of bhang of unknown value.

The police, acting on a tip off from locals, laid an ambush and managed to arrest the suspect who had attempted to sell the illegal herb to a police officer posing as a customer.

Area OCPD Wilson Koskei said they had been informed that the man was using the M-Pesa outlet as a cover up for his illegal trade.

"It is shocking that this man has been selling bhang at the heart of this trading centre. It shows how brazen the suspect is," he said.

RAMPANT CRIME

Mr Koskei said the shopping centre had become a centre of criminal activity and said security agents would mount an operation to weed out the bad elements.

"This area has been in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Just this morning, a man was attacked and injured while another died from stab wounds," he said.

Koskie said despite these happenings, residents had failed to provide crucial information to the authorities to enable them fight crime because they failed to attend public barazas where such information could be shared.

The suspect is being held at Ol-Kalou Police Station and will be arraigned once investigations are complete.
