How prayer can be the most dangerous thing

Counties

Prayer

There is a story I heard on why we should always pray with caution. Two newly wed women went on a package deal trip to an attractive honeymoon destination at a rustic beach hotel that catered mostly to conservative Christian couples.

The same evening after the manic wedding festivities, they found themselves booked in the same hotel with their husbands, alone for the first time.

It was clear that they were freshly wed and an older couple teased them about it, urging them not to waste time. The two couples sat in restaurant, making small talk and trying not to make it so obvious that they would rather be up in their rooms consummating their marriages.

power blackout

But after much fidgeting, a brilliant plan was hatched. The ladies would go in the direction of the ladies bathroom and then quietly slip up to their rooms.

The men would then linger and have their last drink in the bar before excusing themselves. The men agreed to leave after 15 minutes and casually walk off to join their brides for a night of passion.

Unfortunately, just as they started to head towards the sleeping quarters, there was a sudden power blackout that threw the entire hotel into pitch darkness.

The hotel staff were caught totally unaware and tumbled about trying to get some alternative lighting going. However, each man felt confident enough to find his room and continued to grope in the dark, using the stairway.

This was in the pre-mobile phone era. There were no cellphones with in-built torches. Julius made his way delicately up the stairs, his hands serving as antennas, trying to retrace his steps and counting the doors in a very deliberate manner. He was by nature a very meticulous individual.

making love

Just to make sure, he struck a match and spotted bits of glitter on the corridor. The room number was correct. He entered quietly and carefully took of his clothes, remaining only in his underwear and knelt down as was his custom to say a short silent prayer.

However, just as he crawled eagerly into the bed, burning with anticipation to make love to his newly wed wife, the lights came back on. He was in the right room but it was the wrong floor and this was the other man’s bride. He quickly grabbed his clothes and dashed off to his correct room, only to find that the other man was a non-believer.
