FKF ELECTIONS HERE: Move to replace officials opposed

Former FKF Vice Chairman Sammy Sholei

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced it will hold a meeting on September 27 to fill up three sensitive posts, a move which was swiftly opposed by one of the officials whose post is to be filled.

The posts fell vacant following the suspension of Sammy Sholei (vice-chairman), Hussein Terry (Nec member-Coast) and Dan Shikanda (Nairobi branch chairman).

Robert Asembo was elevated as vice-chairman and he is expected to fight for the position. Rift Valley NEC member Doris Petra is also interested in the position.

The decision to hold polls was made at a meeting held in Nairobi on Wednesday during which the delegates also threw their weight behind the current office.

But Sholei (top) said he will oppose the move by every available legal means.

“We have a pending arbitration case before the National Olympic Committee of Kenya. We are also awaiting the swearing in of the Sports Tribunal to appeal against our unlawful and malicious suspensions. We shall use every legal and constitutional means to stop those illegal moves by FKF,” Sholei told FeverPitch from China.

Sholei wondered why the hurry to replace them even before they are heard.

“Kenya is different today. Institutions must follow due process and be transparent in their operations,” he said.

In a resolution read by FKF Western branch chairman, Andrew Amukowa, the delegates said they would not allow election losers to derail their plans for developing football in the country.

“We have confidence in the current office led by Sam Nyamweya and ask those who lost in the last elections to give him time to finish his mandate.

“They should understand that the development of football is not just confined to Harambee Stars but other aspects as well. It is thus unfair to judge us by the results of just one match,” he said.
