KAMPALA, UGANDA: President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to travel to Kampala, Uganda on Saturday where he will give youths tips on leadership, management and business at a high-profile “Townhall meeting”.

The President will deliver the keynote address at the youth forum dubbed “Pakasa” (Luganda for ‘toil’) in his capacity as the Chairman of the East African Community at the invitation of his Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni who will also speak at the event.

The forum, organized by Uganda’s leading media house, the Vision Group, brings together experienced individuals to share experiences on how to promote leadership and entrepreneurship among the youth. The theme of the forum is ‘Creating Opportunities for youth in East Africa.”

President Kenyatta will explain interventions made by his Government to address challenges that young people face, from which the region can draw lessons. These would include efforts to raise young leaders as well as grow entrepreneurs so that young people move from the tag of job seekers to job creators.

Last year, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda agreed to build a joint Standard Gauge Railway line, a refinery and an oil pipeline linking each other under the Northern Corridor Infrastructure project.

President Kenyatta will also expound on the opportunities that regional projects hold for the youth in East Africa.

“We expect the President, as EAC Chairperson, to tell us what kind of jobs such projects will create and the long term benefits of those projects,” said Robert Kabushenga, the Vision Group Chief Executive Officer.

In a first for the region, the Kampala event will be televised live across East Africa by Uganda’s Urban TV, the Rwanda Broadcasting Corporation, Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, K24 and Citizen TV. It will also be web streamed in the region.

President Kenyatta will also hold talks with President Museveni on matters of bilateral interest, including South Sudan.

On Sunday, President Kenyatta will travel to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from Kampala, to attend a special summit of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), focusing on South Sudan.
