Waiganjo's case postponed to next month

Nyeri, Kenya: Controversial 'cop' Joshua Waiganjo's fraud case in Nyeri has been postponed to next month.

The case, which was to come up for hearing on Thursday before Nyeri Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma, was postponed to September 11, as the court is on recess.

Waiganjo had arrived at the court ready to file his written submissions through lawyer Charles King'ori before Nyeri Principal Magistrate Susan Ngungi adjourned the case.

The police impostor, who is already serving two years in jail for illegal possession of police uniforms, is accused of conning three Nyeri families of Sh280,000 in the pretext that he would assist their children get jobs in the police service.

It is alleged that Waiganjo told the complainants that he was undertaking a "special recruitment exercise", targeting Nyeri, the home turf of then President Mwai Kibaki.

'Framed up'

Waiganjo allegedly undertook the said exercise claiming that it had the blessings of former AP Commandant and current Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua.

Waiganjo has previously claimed that he had been framed by a former police officer, Daniel Kago, whom he declined to assist recapture his job.
