Couple and son die in Naivasha road accident

NAIROBI, KENYA: A couple and their son died in a grisly road accident in Kinungi Naivasha after their car was involved in a head on collision with a truck.

Four other people were seriously injured during the Tuesday morning accident along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

Among the injured were two relatives of the deceased who were rushed to Naivasha sub-county hospital in critical but stable condition.

The family of six was traveling to Nairobi from Western Kenya when the 2am accident occurred at the notorious black spot.

According to a witness James Kabono, the personal car was trying to overtake a bus when it rammed head on into oncoming truck.

Kabono said that after impact, the personal car rolled for over 30m before landing into a ditch while the truck was left blocking a section of the road.

"In the process the man, his wife and their 11 year-old son died on the spot while four others from the personal car and the lorry were seriously injured," he said.

Kabono said that it took members of the public and police over an hour to retrieve the body of the man from the mangled wreck.

"The incident caused a massive traffic jam on the road but I thank the police for arriving on time and clearing the highway," he said.

Speaking on phone, Naivasha deputy OCPD Agnes Amojong confirmed the incident saying that initial investigations showed that the driver of the personal car was overtaking.
