Lenku engages services of retired police officers in fight against crime

NAIROBI, KENYA: More than 10,000 retired police officers will now be involved in offering security advisory through the Nyumba Kumi and Community policing to supplement police operations, Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Ole Lenku has said.

However, their engagement will be implemented in a structured framework to provide an interface at community and county levels as the government grapples to bolster degenerating national security levels.

"Retired police officers possess a pool of immense knowledge from their local and international training and years of practical knowledge that can supplement security efforts to a larger scale." Lenku said on Tuesday.

He spoke after a delegation of National Association of Retired Police Officer (NARPO) paid him a courtesy call led by former Director of criminal Investigations Dr Francis Sang.

Sang who doubles as a member of the National Taskforce on Nyumba Kumi will coordinate the merger of retired police officers and the Nyumba Kumi Taskforce.

In attendance were interior Principal Secretary Mutea Iringo, Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo, Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro and Deputy Inspector General Grace Kaindi.
