Uhuru directs Lands Cabinet Secretary Charity Ngilu to repossess 500, 000 acres grabbed in Lamu

Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered Lands Cabinet Secretary and the National Lands Commission to repossess 500, 000 acres of land in Lamu acquired illegally by 22 entities.

Addressing the nation on Thursday night, the Head of State also directed police to investigate and prosecute those behind the grabbing.

According to Uhuru, the audit report shows 22 private entities shared 500, 000 acres of land in Lamu between April 2012 and November 2012 despite a Moratorium on Public Land, which represents 70% of available arable land in Lamu County.

Also, 13 out of the 21 berths for the Lamu Port have also been allocated to individuals. The land was allegedly grabbed strategically for speculation purposes targeting Lappset project.

The entities mentioned are: Brick Investments Limited, Rusken International Limited, Mat International,  Witu Nyangoro (DA) Company, Witu Conservative Self Help Group, Shanghai Investment Limited, Fincorp Investments (K) Limited, Kaab Investments, Sheila Ranch Limited, Dynamic Trading Co. Limited, Savannah Fresh Fruits Exports, Mokowe Kibokoni Ranch Limited, Panda Nguo Boni Community and Baragoni Boni Community.

Others are registered as ranches and they include; Khalrala Ranch, Cyberdom Investments, Baragoni Ranch, Enganani Ranch , Lamu Investments,  Amu Ranch and Maalim Ranch
