She says that her condition prompted her to leave her Maziwa home to the nearby clinic. Naliaka was home alone as her husband was upcountry attending to family matters.

“I had only Sh2,000 with me, and I decided to use the money rather than lose my sight. When I arrived at the clinic, I met a youthful doctor, who after hearing my problem told me he would help,” says Christine.

The doctor asked for Sh3,000 for the treatment, but agreed to reduce the charges after brief negotiations. He told me to undress and climb onto the bed in one of the secluded rooms.

I obliged, thinking he was ready to examine me. I removed my blouse, but he insisted that I remove everything including the panty,” narrates Christine.

After brief examination, which allegedly included touching Christine’s stomach, breasts, then thighs, she was reportedly given some tablets to swallow and rest in bed. Christine claims that soon after taking the tablets, she began ‘feeling drowsy’.

“I was able to see what was happening. I saw the doctor removing his coat and adjust his belt before unzipping. When he attempted to penetrate, I blocked him,” said Christine.

“I jumped down the bed twice, but he forcefully pushed me back. I shouted and one of the women in the next room tried to gain entry but the doctor stopped her saying he was not yet done with me.”

She alleges that the doctor warned her not to shout and that he was ready to help her. “He picked a metallic object from his drawer which he inserted... it was so painful, but he told me that was the only treatment,” say Christine.

The ‘treatment’ which was supposed to take less than an hour had gone for more than two hours. At 3pm, she claims the doctor finally removed the bloodstained metallic object from her private parts and told her to go home.

“When he pulled out the object, I felt an excruciating pain. He told me to leave and that I would be well by 5pm. I struggled to find my way and finally arrived safely. At around 5pm, I realised that blood was beginning to trickle as he had promised”, laments Christine, adding, “I was still feeling a lot of pain which forced me to call my husband who rushed back home to help me.”

Noah Makhanu supposedly arrived on Sunday, July 27, only to learn that Christine, his wife, had allegedly been forced to undergo an abortion without her consent. He is said to have reported the matter to his longtime friend, an administration officer attached to Mukuru Chief’s camp.

The officer told The Nairobian, “When I heard the problem, I decided to report the matter to social workers, since that is their role in the community.”

Leah Obanda, a community social worker in Embakasi confirmed the matter had officially reached her and promised that the doctor will face the full force of the law.

“... We are doing our best, including examining the woman to ascertain that indeed a metallic object was used on her before we hand over the matter to police,” she said.

When we visited St Benedict’s Clinic with Christine’s case, Evans Arama, a medic there retorted: “It is not true that I attempted to sleep with her. I can’t even remember such a name (Christine), furthermore we have other clinics and a number of doctors here unless she can identify the doctor and exact dates.”
