Machakos Deputy Governor Barnard Kiala threatens to expose ‘corruption’ in Mutua’s govt

MACHAKOS, KENYA: Embattled Machakos Deputy Governor Barnard Kiala, whose stay in office now hangs in a balance after the County Assembly passed a motion to impeach him on grounds of alleged abuse of office and integrity issues, says he will soon ‘spill the beans’ on what he terms as deep-rooted rot in Governor Alfred  Mutua’s government.

Reacting to reports that a section of lobby groups and local politicians have kicked off a debate about his possible replacement, Kiala said those behind the calls for his replacement are wishful thinkers who are terribly out of touch with the provisions of the constitution.

He said the constitution does not provide for an express clause detailing the removal from office for a deputy governor.

In an interview, a defiant Kiala sensationally claimed he will soon unleash a damning dossier detailing high-level graft implicating Governor Alfred Mutua and some two members of the National Assembly.

“I have with me water tight evidence linking the Governor and some two MPs to dubious deals involving millions of shillings meant for tax payers  and they should therefore be ready to face the law over the same,” he said.

Kiala claimed Mutua’s government is ‘rotten’ with corruption and that his (Dr Mutua) much hyped ‘Maendeleo Chap Chap’ (instant development) slogan is merely an empty propaganda tool meant to divert the minds of the would-be critical populace.

Kiala says he further has knowledge of how the county government has been doing business with some MPs in exchange for political support.

He claims one of the MPs was awarded a tender for county vehicles’ car track system and fuel management in total disregard to public procurement regulations. “This person has been paid up to Sh30million for a work that could have cost about Sh2million shillings and this, and much more are what residents of Machakos County are not being told.” He added.
