Cord leader Kalonzo Musyoka calls for sacking of Mombasa County Commissioner Marwa

NAIROBI, KENYA: Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called for the sacking of Mombasa County Commissioner Nelson Marwa for his “careless and reckless” outburst.

Kalonzo termed as unfortunate remarks by Marwa that link the Opposition to the attacks in Lamu and other parts of the Coast region.

Speaking at the burial of a Machakos businessman, Mutiso Kivuva, at his Kalawani Village, Mbooni Constituency in Makueni County, the CORD co-principal said the country cannot be governed through press conferences and by people with loose tongues.

“We need more serious and responsible leadership cutting across all political divide. President Kenyatta must reign on his officers whose pronouncements are threat to the nation,” Kalonzo said.

Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr backed the former Vice President’s sentiments by asserting that nobody was above the law and security agents should act on anyone they suspect to be involved in lawlessness without issuing unwarranted press statements.

“The Wiper Party and by extension CORD coalition do not subscribe to violence. Why then is the County Commissioner engaging in sidetrack tact?,” Mutula posed.

The senator said in law there is no “co-operate crime” and thus individuals who commit violence should be arrested and charged.

Kalonzo said it is irresponsible for the Jubilee administration to call press conference and tarnish and pile blame on CORD coalition over their failure to offer the basics to its citizenry’s protection.

“The push by CORD on the referendum was aimed at increasing monies to counties from current 15 per cent 40 per cent and thus hastening development in rural areas,” the Wiper leader said.

Kalonzo said a question to strengthening the Senate may also appear in the referendum as way of enhancing devolution.

Mutula Jnr also termed the push by Members of County Assembly to have Constituency Development Fund kitty as unconstitutional.

“Funds meant for development in the counties can only be channeled and managed through the County administration,” the senator said.

He urged the president to sign into law the Development Board Bill, which allows Senators to chair the development boards in their Counties.
