Leaders split on Gideon Mung'aro removal

MOMBASA COUNTY: Coast leaders are sharply divided over the sacking of Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro as CORD's Minority Chief Whip. While Mung'aro blamed his political woes on Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, the latter told him to understand that CORD and Jubilee have different ideologies and that it was not possible to mix the two.

Addressing a funds drive in Likoni on Saturday evening, Omar denied interfering with politics of Kilifi County but noted that CORD leaders who were turning to Jubilee were not only going against their coalition's interest but also against their own people who elected them.

But while addressing a political rally at Kibaoni Primary School grounds, Mung'aro said he still has respect for CORD leader Mr Raila Odinga but blamed Mr Omar for his sacking.

He promised to spearhead consultations and meetings in a view to forming a regional political party ahead of the 2017 General Elections.

Separately, Lamu County Women Representative Ms Shakila Abdalla called on the Coast MPs to unite and move forward, describing Mr Mung'aro's replacement as minor issue compared to insecurity, lost employment and high cost living in the Coast region.
