Kenya power to ration electricity in Nakuru for three weeks

NAKURU COUNTY: Residents of Nakuru town and its environs will have to go without power during peak hours for the next three week to allow electricity supplier Kenya Power to renovate a substation that was damaged by fire on Wednesday.

A statement from Kenya Power said it might have to ration electricity twice in parts of Nakuru during that period.  The rationing will be scheduled for between 9:00am to 12:00pm and 6:30pm to 9:30pm.

This follows a mysterious fire at the company’s Soilo substation located along Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The company’s Manager for West Region, Eng Rosemary Oduor, said the primary cause of the fire, which caused damages estimated at Shs70 million was yet to be determined.

Eng Oduor added that it will take about three weeks to repair damaged equipment at the substation.

Kenya Power said most of Nakuru’s electricity was currently being served from Lanet substation.
