Governor Nathif Jama Adam issues stern warning to county workers

GARISSA, KENYA: Garissa Governor Nathif Jama Adam has asked civil servants in the county to be morally responsible in service delivery to the people.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with senior civil servants, Nathif said he expects each staff member to give value for the money they earn as salary.

The governor said one year into devolution, it would no longer be business as usual, as he hinted to crack the whip on county workers who fail to be productive and perform below expectations.

“Those who do not wish to work properly, in the way we want them to work and do not care about the county which employs them have an option of resigning,” he said adding

He said work professionalism and adherence to the set standards of office ethics including the dress code is the core aspect of his administration, warning that absenteeism from work without any genuine reasons will not be tolerated.

He told the staff members that failure is not an option for his administration and directed them to work as a team. “Discipline in adhering to hierarchy and respect for each other must be followed to the letter. We must be a civilised society with integrity,” he added.

The governor who had week-long busy office schedule after the Supreme Court upheld his election as the county’s chief executive officer, said all workers should be proud to be associated with the government and deliver services in line with the set goals and manifesto of his administration.

He said staff key performance indicators will be carried out on a monthly basis with the Deputy Governor Abdullahi Hussein tasked to coordinate government business in all the county departments.

He said in the impending restructuring of departments, the deputy governor’s new office would be revamped and technocrats brought on board to help oversee performance in all county ministries.

He said he would like to see enhanced revenue generation with a target of Sh500 million expected to be raised within this financial year, revealing that about Sh1 billion can be raised if the staff members pull up their socks. He challenged departments to raise money as they provide prudent service delivery.
