DP William Ruto's directive on school fees irresponsible

The recent directive by Deputy President William Ruto that schools should no longer withhold certificates of school leavers with fees arrears is rather illogical. On face value, this act may seem magnanimous but the truth is that this is a bad move that is going to hurt many schools, which are already suffering the burden of insufficient funds to meet their budgets.

This is clearly a populist and thoughtless directive which, when coupled with the recent recommendations of the Kilemi Mwiria task force report that schools look for ways of reducing fees charged, is seriously going to strain many schools financially.
