Mombasa, Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Wednesday open this year’s Mombasa International trade fair.

Security has been tightened in Mombasa ahead of tomorrow’s event, which coincides with the arrival of regional presidents to preside over the opening of a new berth at the Mombasa port (separate story above).

Organisers of the show have installed CCTV cameras in strategic locations.

Security sources quoting intelligence reports also indicate that anti-terror police officers were on high alert over fears that militants may target key installations in Mombasa to mark the first anniversary of the killing of Sheikh Aboud Rogo tomorrow.

Yesterday, Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Mombasa County Chairman Anthony Mrima assured that security had been beefed up ahead of the trade fair, which runs from tomorrow through Sunday.

He said show had attracted 170 exhibitors, including 20 newcomers, surpassing last year’s 159.

Mrima said show entry tickets were available for purchase online.
